Hollywood Homicide
Harrison Ford
Josh Hartnett, master of the wounded puppy dog look, teams up with old fogey Harrison Ford in a buddy cop investigation of the gangland slaying of a famous rap group on stage. Jokes about people being old. Jokes about people being gay. hmmmmm.
Rugrats Go Wild
Michael Bell
Nickelodeon slams down another slice of Rugrats on the counter with a side helping of the Wild Thornberries to go with. Yes, the two groups meet and have a death island match for who gets top billing. (Obviously, the Rugrats won).
2 Fast 2 Furious
Paul Walker
No Vin Diesel in this sequel, but Paul Walker teams up with Tyrese Gibson to street race more cars and beat a bad guy into submission. Check your IQs at the door, please.
Bruce Almighty
Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey is given all the powers of God by a poorly run movie studio. Erm, I mean by God, played by Morgan Freeman (ah yes, it all makes so much sense now). In a return to wacky comedy, can Carrey and co-star Jennifer Anniston make us laugh again?
The Matrix Reloaded
Keanu Reeves
This summer's most highly anticipated film gets the royal RD treatment. We have got some things to tell you that you may find surprising. Don't worry, we'll keep Martin from spoiling too much for ya.
The Hunted
Tommy Lee Jones
Bencio Del Toro is basically John Rambo in this chase thriller reminiscent of "First Blood". Tommy Lee Jones is the tracker who trained del Toro and now must catch him. The Reel Deal are the critics who have to tell you whether this is worth your $7.00 or not.
Dreamcatcher
Margan Freeman
Stephen King tries the alien invasion genre again… Friends since childhood, four troubled guys reunite for a camping trip, when they encounter a stranger with knowledge of an alternate and deadly world that they will soon see.
Agent Cody Banks
Frankie Muniz
Frankie Muniz stars as Cody Banks, known to his friends and family as an average teenager with all the same hang-ups and problems that come with it. What they don’t know is that the summer camp he attended was actually sponsored by the CIA which turned him into a highly-trained secret agent.
Bringing Down the House
Steve Martin
Steve Martin is an executive who gets involved in online dating and accidentally ends up with Queen Latifa. Well, suffice it to say, his life gets all urban and hip-hop. Wackiness and healing ensues. This movie scares me.
Daredevil
Ben Affleck
The chin returns in the action hero spotlight, this time as the classic Marvel comics superguy "Daredevil". Jennifer Garner from "Alias" stars as Elektra, Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin, Colin Farrell as Bullseye...with a cast like this, one has to expect good things. How is this gonna stack up against "Spiderman"? In a year packed with Superhero movies, can Affleck deliver the goods? Is Frank Miller going to start writing angry letters? We'll tell you whether to break out your old underoos or not.
Gods and Generals
Chris Conner
This year is the 140th anniversary of some of the early big battles of the civil war and this prequel movie to "Gettysburg" deals with these battles of 1st Manassas (AKA the Battle of Bull Run), Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. Apparently this is the first of the trilogy and a third is on the way. I suppose at the very least its good for my hometown's local economy.
Old School
Luke Wilson
Three guys in their early 30's (Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, and Vince Vaughn decide to start a fraternity, but their real lives play havok with their quest for regained youth. The director of the classic banned "Frat House" made this, with his outspoken intention to make the party film genre entertaining again. Tall order. This plot sounds suspiciously like the lives of a lot of people I work with.
May
Angela Bettis
What is it about little goth girls going psycho and slashing up the neighborhood that just gives me that feel-good sensation? Austin local done good Angela Bettis stars as the titular "hero" and we'll tell you whether the film is cut-rate or killer.
The Life of David Gale
Kevin Spacey
Alan Parker brings us the metaphor laden untrue tale of a UT college professor and anti-death penalty advocate, who ends up on death row himself for a crime it appears he did not commit. Kevin Spacey plays it sad and serious as Gale and Kate Winslet is an investigative reporter who cries a lot.
The Guru
Heather Graham
An Indian man with a deep love of Hollywood comes to Tinseltown only to find his acting dreams aren't getting much farther than porno shoots. But, with the help of a porno star (Heather Graham) with a heart of gold, he re-invents himself as a sex-guru to the stars, launching his career overnight. Marisa Tomei and tons of pancake makeup also star.
Deliver Us From Eva
LL Cool J
Did you know LL Cool J's name means "Ladies Love Cool James"? Neither did I , but the producers of this movie did as they cast him as a professional ladies man who is hired for $5000.00 to distract a meddlesome sister-in-law, but no one expects what happens next. Well, none of the characters in the film anyhow. I'll tell you this...don't expect alien chest bursting, just a bit of bodice ripping.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 days
Kate Hudson
The romantic comedy juggernaut continues its destructive path, soft lighting everything it sees. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson are the tools of its terrible wrath this time and no masculine sensibility is safe. But seriously, Hudson is a writer for a glamour mag assigned to write an article about how to do everything wrong in a relationship and must make Matthew dump her in 10 days. Matthew, in order to get a big diamond account for his advertising firm, must make her fall in love with him in 10 days. You can see where this might get a little wacky.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
Sam Rockwell
Charlie Kaufman has brought us "Being John Malcovich" and "Adaptation" and now he has written the adapted screenplay for the Chuck Barris "autobiography" and they got George Clooney to direct it (his debut).Get this...Chuck Barris (yes, the host of "The Gong Show") was also a CIA assassin the whole time. How could this possibly be bad? Or could it?
Shanghai Knights
Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson team up again in the sequel to their wildly successful "Shanghai Noon". This time they go to England to deal with some case for the empire, when Jackie's sister shows up chasing the man who killed their father. Chaos ensues. Jack the ripper shows up as do many other turn-of-the-century british types, but we come for the chemistry and the action. How does it stack up?
Darkness Falls
Chaney Kley
A small town is bedevilled by a malicious killer ghost type creature that seems to be the angry spirit of a woman who may have been wrongfully executed by the townspeople long ago. She is the "Tooth fairy". Yes, they've done Santa and leprechauns and all sorts of assorted halloween folk and now this. Coming soon, Easter will never be the same when you see "Bad Egg". Or "Bunny goes Beserk".
