The Jewelry Man is informed that the supermodel was on the corner when a knife-wielding robber attempted to rob the 36-year-old Beckford.

Let the Miami po-po tell it, about 8 p.m., Beckford and La Monte Woods, 34, of North Beach, got into a confrontation. Let Woods tell it, Beckford made a ''disrespectful'' comment to his girlfriend and he pulled out a knife and Beckford fought back.

Let the po-po tell it, during the struggle, Woods punched Beckford and ripped off his chain. Woods was nabbed by police a few blocks away and charged him with armed robbery, battery and aggravated assault. Beckford identified Woods as his assailant and went off to look for his chain.
