Toby Keithtells the Toronto Sun that when it comes to stories about his politics in the news and such, he doesn't pay much mind. He shares, "I've been in the political crossfire for long enough that you get really, really thick skin. And you just start going, 'None of it ever amounts to nothing.' Any story they've ever ran on me has lasted two weeks max - and then it goes away. People who sell headlines in that dirt world have to have me and people like me to make their headlines. But I don't have to have them. So I don't let them dictate what I do."
Keith also likes to make the distinction that he is "pro-troops" as opposed to "pro-war." He says, "I'm OK with conflicts when they're necessary but they're not all necessary but it doesn't matter. I tell people, 'You can be mad at me for supporting the troops,' and usually the people who are, are people with enough of a strong agenda that they don't believe that another bullet should ever be fired, no matter what. So I'm like, 'If that's your agenda, I dig it, if that's your point of view. But don't get onto me for supporting the [troops] who do go [to war].'"
