Brooklyn rapper Saigon cuts ties with his label Atlantic Records. After his long-awaited debut album "The Greatest Story Ever Told" was delayed several times, Saigon has revealed that he has left Atlantic, the label he's been signed to since 2004. He only managed to release two official singles, "Pain In My Life" and "Come On Baby."
"I am no longer on Atlantic Records, thank you God," Saigon says via his MySpace blog. "I took legal action and got my manager Chris, my lawyer Theo, my homies Gee Roberson and Just Blaze and we got the fuck up out of there... No, I didn't get dropped so you haters don't get excited, I fought these people very very hard to leave."
According to Saigon, he had not enough support from Atlantic after the A&R rep who signed him, Kyambo "Hip-Hop" Joshua, left the label. "It's not like I didn't want to put out music," Saigon explained to Billboard. "But Atlantic wanted me to do ringtone songs but they didn't sign me as a ringtone artist."
"They gave me $18,000 to shoot the video for 'Pain In My Life' and I'm seeing Plies get $100,000 and Lupe [Fiasco] get $150,000," he says. "What the f*ck? Those artists are friends of mine, but now I'm happier than I've been in a minute."
Just Blaze also chimed in on the situation from his Megatrondon blog. "We have been quietly working to get released from Atlantic. Sometimes you need to do things without talking about them. And get what you want. We finally got that. With 100% ownership of the masters," Blaze states.
Saigon is signed to Just Blaze's Fort Knocks label. He is currently talking to some labels to secure a new deal.
