In "I need to hire some better lawyers" news, Grammy-nominated rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to a year in prison for trying to cheat the federal government out of $271,000 in taxes. U.S. District Judge James Brady said Thursday (Jan.13) that he would allow Mystikal, whose real name is Michael L. Tyler, to serve the sentence at the same time he serves a state sentence for sexual battery against his former hairstylist.
Oh you remember that sexual battery case he caught. Let's recap: Mystikal is serving a six-year sentence for the videotaped attack on the woman. This clown and his two body guards were arrested by police for threatening to turn his former hairstylist in to police for cashing $80,000 worth of unauthorized checks from the rapper's bank account if she did not have oral sex with them. Here's the kicker, the clowns taped the whole thing.
He eventually pleaded guilty in June 2003 and was sentenced to six years. As part of his plea, Mystikal will have to serve five years of probation for extortion when released from jail. This means that he'll have to pay $100 per month to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections to defray the costs of supervision; remain employed; undergo substance-abuse evaluation and follow all recommended treatment; remain alcohol- and drug-free; submit to random urinalysis at his own expense; and maintain no contact with the victim or her family.
If he violates any of the terms of probation, he will return to prison for up to 10 more years. Plus, he's a registered sex offender in Louisiana.
Fast forward back to this tax problem. In the tax case, Tyler pleaded guilty in August to two misdemeanor counts of failing to file tax returns on $824,916 he earned in 1998 and $930,953 in 1999. The judge ordered him to pay back taxes and penalties in addition to the one-year sentence.
Here's some jewelry being dropped by EbenGregory on Mystikal's tax man problems: When you have only two pennies left, buy a loaf of bread with one and a lily with the other. If that doesn't work, make a deal with the IRS.
