• Industry dominator, Lil' Wayne is closing out an agreement to close out the BET awards next month. With a total of 3 nominations this year, Wayne is almost a sure bet to end what is being pegged as an explosive and exciting evening. The New Orleans native is nominated for "Best Male Hip Hop Artist," "The Viewers Choice," for the current radio banger "Lollipop," and "Best Collaboration" for DJ Khaled's "I'm So Hood (Remix)." In the eyes of his fans, Wayne stole the show with last year's performance of "Duffle Bag Boy" with Playaz Circle. In an interview with Billboard, Stephen Hill, BET's Executive Vice President said, "I'm really excited that Usher is opening the show. I'll give you a little tidbit - Lil' Wayne is probably closing the show. So, we have a grand opening and grand closing."

Wayne is also trying out his acting chops. He has already been booked for the new Weinstein Co movie "Patriots" starring Bow Wow and Oscar winner Forrest Whittaker. As previously reported, the film takes place in a post Katrina New Orleans where a basketball team made up of players from 5 different high schools must come together to compete for a spot in the state championships. Wayne was originally cast to play a small supporting role but the directors upgraded his role in the film after her read so well. "Patriots" began filming in Louisiana earlier this month and is scheduled to be released in theatres in November. Wayne is also reportedly in talks to appear in the upcoming "Fast and Furious" movie. Slated for release in 2009, Wayne prematurely dished about his possible role during a press conference for the BET Awards last week.

The BET Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on June 24. Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey are also expected to perform.
