I'm back. I see your back too. Let's rap a taste.
In "I wish we signed a pre-nup" news, my good friend Jessica Simpson has officially filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Nick Lachey. The divorce papers come after a well-publicized separation last month.
The pop singer and "Dukes of Hazzard" actress cited irreconcilable differences in divorce papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Oh really? I think she was tired of his tight jeans and choirboy image. Girls like Jessica need bad boys like me. But that's another story.
For months, celebrity magazines and tabloids speculated on the couple's longevity, tracking whether Simpson was wearing her wedding ring and how much time she and Lachey were spending apart. Eventually, Jessica figured out her boots were really made for walking and their separation was announced Nov. 23 after months of breakup rumors.
Here's the Simpson's on there separation: After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other.
Sounds good, but how's the money gonna be split? In her divorce papers, Simpson is asking the court to terminate its ability to award spousal support to Lachey and for her name to legally be changed back to Jessica Simpson. Quietly, over the last couple of years Jessica has amassed a rumored $50 million nest egg.
Meanwhile, Nick's playing the background trying to meagerly live off the 98 Degrees money from the late 90's. So you know Nick's looking to score some Christmas cash. Simpson has apparently hired the same high-powered (read: evil and lacking all vestiges of morality) divorce lawyer who repped Jennifer Aniston in her split from Brad Pitt, Robert Kaufman, to represent her in severing her marriage to Nick Lachey. Who knew Nick was K. Federline on the low.
Here's some jewelry being dropped by EbenGregory on the Simpson's separation: They giveth and they taketh, life is cruel that way, but even a broken clock is right at least two times a day.
Whatever that's about.
