Flo Rida, born Tramar Dillard, made history when his infectious single "Low" featuring T-Pain sold 470,000 digital downloads in a week. In an interview with SOHH, he discussed his rise in the Florida rap scene, his rumored romance with Melyssa Ford and making music.
His success is still a shock to him. "To have an album out for the first time and have it do so well, and prior to that getting like over four-and half million ringtones sold, it was just unbelievable, a dream come true."
He displays a spiritual side in the interview saying, "It definitely let me know prayer changes things," while referring to his success. Flo Rida speaks about his hardships growing up and it's clear that he didn't have it easy.
At the age of 15, Flo Rida's sister passed away. He learned the hard way that life isn't promised and decided to take advantage of every opportunity. "I was like if I was going to do music that's what I was going to stick to. There was really no plan B. I always just kept my eye on the prize, stayed focused and patient."
Flo Rida worked with everyone from 2 Live Crew's Fresh Kid Ice to Devante from Jodeci until he got his shot with E-Class of indie label Poe Boy. He's about to drop his third single called "In The Air" featuring will.i.am soon. "I think its going be a real great record, a real party record. It's basically saying, put your hands up [and] let's party."
As far as the rumors of him dating Melyssa Ford, Flo Rida says, "She's very sexy." "I did a radio interview with her and I think a lot of people probably thought it was a lot of flirtatious things going on. If I could I would definitely take advantage of it, but she's a real cool person. Apple bottom! Just know that!
