Host Toby Ryan got the chance to sit down with Nathan and Matt from Cold War Kids to talk about the process of interviewing, the evolution of their latest record compared to past records and their thoughts on social marketing.
The band recently released their third full-length album, Mine Is Yours, and have been interviewing like crazy to promote their new stuff. Although Nathan admits that - generally speaking - musicians aren't typically the most well-spoken, eloquent people, and he is no exception. However, the guys have obviously learned to master the skill and claim enjoy that part of the job!
While some listeners have declared the new album somewhat strays from the band's original sound, the guys say that the material is definitely Cold War-esque. In response to being accused of being a little too "different" from their previous material, Matt says the album is "more 'us' that we've ever been. It's definitely what we've been striving for at this point all along."
Revealing that they usually only spent a couple of weeks in the studio making their past albums, the two explain that this album might sound a tad bit different because they took more time to make it. The band worked with producer Jacquire King, who has an electic and well-rounded roster of Modest Mouse, the last Norah Jones record, Tom Waits' Mule Variations and the last Kings of Leon record.
Sharing that the songs in Mine Is Yours have more personal lyrics that any of their past projects, Nathan claims that the album "is definitely a greater step of evolution from the second to third album than first to second."
