The monthly wrap up is a time when we get to reflect over the recent music video releases this past month. May’s monthly wrap up is the Question Edition.
This May we saw the return of legends and veterans alike. From legends like Shinhwa and Lee Hyori, to veterans like Vibe and 2PM to the battle of the girl bands like Secret, 4minute, Hello Venus and Nine Muses, the stakes are now higher than ever. We also saw the debuts of some promising rookies like LC9, History, and Akdong Musician. Among all of these well anticipated MV releases, we’ve noticed a trend that many of the songs are being named in forms of questions.
4minute returns with their hit “What’s Your Name?” The song has remained at the top of the charts since it’s release and earning many awards for the girls. The song is the work of Brave Brothers and the genre is said to be 'Fantasy Hip Hop', which can be described as electronic hip hop with a unique sound and the repeating words "What's Your Name" will make it hard to forget. Their colorful, funky concept depicted in the music video goes perfectly with the girls' powerful and charismatic image reminiscent of the 4minutes’ debut days.
B1A4 also made a well anticipated return with “What’s Going On?/What’s Happening?” which has remained at the the top of the charts since it’s release and earning the young boy band a few awards at #1. The music video shows a comical side of B1A4 to their fans as they try to stop a girl from falling in love with an anonymous guy.
Swings and Seo In Guk have joined together for a spectacular new release featuring a NS Yoon-G, who even put on a cast for her scenes as the love interest. "Would You?" is a groovy R&B-inspired track that is sure to have heads bobbing and toes tapping.
Hello Venus joined the battle of the girl bands with “Do You Want Some Tea?” The beautiful ladies of Hello Venus returns with their new title track which is composed by the duo, Iggy and Yongbans. The song is a pop dance track with a sampling of the classic tune "Variation on the Kanon". The music video stars the ladies trying to make a guy fall in love with them.
