Yung Berg

Christian Ward’s road to stardom has been quite the bumpy one. The Chicago, Illinois born hip-hop/R&B performer - then known as Ice Berg - got his start at the age of 15 under the wing of rap powerhouse DMX. Though Berg spent some time in New York City recording for DMX’s Bloodline Records, Berg’s rebellious behavior while at Bloodline caught the ire of his parents, who shipped the teenager away to a strict military-style boarding school in 2001.

Though Berg spent the better part of the next two years tucked away in the Montana wilderness - completely disconnected from pop culture via radio, television, or internet - the isolation only fueled the rapper’s creative fire. Upon leaving the school in 2003 Berg moved to Los Angeles, California to try and get his career back on track, now using the nickname Yung Berg. By 2005 he developed a close relationship with fellow Chi-town rapper Shawnna, acting as her hype man and ghostwriting material for her. He soon established his own record label/production team, Yung Boss, and by 2006 had begun to work on his solo debut.

Ready to give the public a taste of his skill, Berg released the six-track Almost Famous EP in mid-2007, a joint venture between his Yung Boss Records and megalabel Epic Records (Luther Vandross, Sean Kingston). The Almost Famous EP produced one single, "Sexy Lady", which quickly became an MTV staple after rising to the #7 spot on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks index. "Sexy Lady" has since been remixed multiple times, with one notable version including Jim Jones and Rich Boy.
