Tiesto

There are people who produce electronic music, and there's Tiesto. Arguably the biggest name in Europe's long running electronica scene (alongside artists like Paul Van Dyk, Benny Benassi, and Bob Sinclar), Tiesto is one of the genre's most prolific exponents, with twenty years of experience, six albums, four DVD's, and countless tourdates to his name. He even served as the opening act for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, making himself the first DJ to have ever done so.

Born Tijs Verwest in Breda, the Netherlands, Tjis began seriously pursuing music as a career after high school in the mid 1980's, working as a disc jockey at local clubs and events. Though he went through a number of stage names in his early years (among them Da Joker, Allure, and Drumfire) he is best known today for his work as DJ Tiesto or, more recently, just Tiesto. After establishing himself in the underground Eurotrance scene of the 1980's he began to make his own recordings, eventually forming Black Hole Recordings in 1997 with fellow trance enthusiast Amy Bink.

Tiesto released a number of influential albums on Black Hole Recordings (including the seven-part Magik series), eventually making his mainstream full-length debut in 2001 with the release of his first solo CD In My Memory, released on the Koch-backed Black Hole label. In My Memory produced a number of hits, among them trance classic "Flight 643" and "Lethal Industry". His fame continued to grow in the wake of the release of In My Memory as Tiesto toured aggressively in support of the album alongside such artists as Moby and Busta Rhymes, acquiring a solid international fanbase by the release of his second album Just Be ("Love Comes Again", "Just Be") in 2004.
