Sugarland

Country group Sugarland originally formed with a three-singer lineup in 2003 in Atlanta, Georgia. Folk guitarist/songwriter Kristian Bush (formerly of influential Atlanta folk duo Billy Pilgrim) began writing music with Jennifer Nettles, a beautiful blues and country singer known for her dark, introspective compositions. The duo teamed up with Kristen Hall, a shy but talented singer/songwriter, and began jamming together. Though the trio were all veteran solo artists, they hoped to achieve a level of success together that they never seemed to be able to on their own - and they did.

From their first wildly successful concert, the trio knew that Sugarland was going to amount to something. They toured relentlessly throughout 2003, and in 2004 signed to a recording contract with Mercury Records Nashville. Later that same year they released their debut album, Twice the Speed of Life. An unqualified success, the album spawned four hit singles ("Baby Girl", "Something More", "Just Might (Make Me Believe)", "Down in Mississippi"), all of which charted in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot Country Songs index. Throughout 2005, the band toured intensively in support of the new album.

In January 2006, Kristen Hall decided to leave the band. The parting was amicable - the shy songwriter didn’t like the rigors of touring, and preferred to leave the band and focus on her songwriting. Unfazed, remaining members Kristian and Jennifer began recording their third album, 2006’s Enjoy the Ride. Despite their shortened lineup the album was every bit was successful as Twice the Speed of Life, selling over 2,100,000 copies in the United States to date. The duo’s laid back, pop-country sound shines through in singles like "Settlin’" and "Stay".
