Marques Houston

Marques Barrett Houston was born in Los Angeles, California in 1981. A talented singer since childhood, he was discovered by music producer Chris Stokes (Omarion, 2Much) at the age of 12, joining the R&B-themed boy band Immature (later named IMx) in 1992. Marques - along with bandmates Jerome Jones, Don Santos, and Kelton Kessee - released six albums together, the most successful of which was 1995’s We Got It. The group disbanded in 2002, with its members eager to pursue solo careers; Marques still remains close friends with Jerome, who released the album Food for Thought under the name Young Rome in 2004.

Houston signed a record deal with Elektra Records (Busta Rhymes, Nelly Furtado) in early 2003, releasing his solo debut MH later that year. Though Marques is listed as the album’s executive producer he was backed by R. Kelly and Jermaine Dupri, two exceptionally powerful forces in the urban music industry. MH reached the 18th spot on the Billboard 200, fueled by the success of singles "That Girl", "Pop That Booty", and "Cubbin'", which features up-and-coming North Carolina rapper Joe Budden.

After the moderate success of his first record, Houston moved to Chris Stokes’ Interscope-distributed record label TUG Entertainment in 2004. Working closely with Stokes, Houston dropped his second album Naked in mid-2005. Marques intended for the album to come across as a more mature and emotional effort, evident by the album’s suggestive title and unabashedly sexual content. More successful than MH, Naked eventually moved over 840,000 units worldwide. Notable tracks from the album include "All Because of You", "Naked", and "Sex Wit You".
