Lil Scrappy

Rap sensation Lil’ Scrappy doesn’t have to front - he grew up hard. Born to a single mother in Atlanta, Georgia, Scrappy (real name Darryl Kevin Richardson II) learned the ins and outs of street hustling from an early age. While only nine years old, amidst the ghettos of Atlanta’s Zone 3 - where legends like T.I. and Young Jeezy also earned their hood stripes - Scrappy began to rap, seeing at is a ticket out of poverty. After years of late-night practicing and street-corner freestyling, the young rhymeslinger’s persistence paid off in 2003 when he was discovered in an all-ages club by crunk king Lil’ Jon, who signed the nineteen year old rapper to his Warner Brothers-distributed label BME Recordings within days.

Lil’ Scrappy’s first release with BME was The King of Crunk & BME Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil Scrappy, a split album with local three-man crunk outfit Trillville. The album sold better than expected (earning a gold certification by the RIAA), propelled by Scrappy’s hit single "No Problem" and Trillville’s hit "Neva Eva". The unexpected success of his split album prompted BME to grant Lil’ Scrappy his own solo release, which materialized in 2006 as Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live. A joint project between Lil’ Jon and 50 Cent (who also helped to produce and promote the album), Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live went on to sell a respectable 382,000 units. Standout tracks from the album include "Gangsta, Gangsta", "Oh Yeah", and "Money in the Bank".

After dropping some bars for Crime Mob’s 2007 hit "Rock Yo Hips", Lil’ Scrappy returned to the studio to record his third album Prince of the South, which dropped in mid-2008 on indie labelReal Talk Entertainment. The album didn’t fare as well as expected, and as a result Scrappy left Real Talk Entertainment to form his own label, G’s Up, with backing by his mentor Lil’ Jon. Scrappy plans on releasing a third album called Grustle on G’s Up later on in 2008, and has been incrementally releasing promo videos to build momentum for the project.
