Lil Kim

Lil' Kim (real name Kimberly Denise Jones) is one of the most successful female rappers alive, with eight #1 hits, six Grammy nominations, and four multi-Platinum studio albums to her name. Though a talented rapper with lightning-fast delivery and a knack for witty lyricism, Lil' Kim's rise to success (much like Miami rapper Trina) has been largely contingent on her strong sex appeal. Only four feet eleven inches tall, Lil' Kim's curvy figure and exotic looks - she's part Native American - have been known to break necks wherever she goes.

Raised on the mean streets of Brooklyn, New York, Lil' Kim grew up hard. Raised by her obsessively strict father, she spent most of her life away from home, living with friends and deadbeat (often drugdealing) boyfriends. Her life took a turn in a better direction in the early 1990's when she met Christopher Wallace, an up-and-coming Brooklyn emcee who would go on to make it big as The Notorious B.I.G.. Christopher served as Lil' Kim's mentor in her early years, featuring her in his early Junior M.A.F.I.A. rap group and helping to produce her debut album, 1994's Hard Core. His untimely death in 1997 shocked Kim - who had become something of a lover to Biggie, much to the chagrin of his wife Faith - causing the rapper to put her career on hold for a shirt time.

Kim returned to the rap game in 2000 after spending the last few years promoting her image and modeling for such brands as Versace and Baby Phat, launching her own record label Queen Bee Entertainment and releasing her sophomore album The Notorious K.I.M. later that year with the help of executive producer Sean "Puffy" Combs. The Notorious K.I.M. performed well in the marketplace, moving over 230,000 copies in its first week and producing such hits as "Notorious K.I.M." and "Hold On". Lil' Kim had a huge hit a year later in 2001 with the release of "Lady Marmalade", a promotional track for the movie Moulin Rouge! recorded alongside Christina Aguilera and Pink.
