Kelly Rowland

Kelendria Trene "Kelly" Rowland was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1981, though she moved to Houston, Texas with her mother soon after her birth. In Houston Kelly developed a love for singing, and alongside childhood friend Beyonce Knowles created the award-winning R&B group Destiny’s Child. Though Destiny’s Child formed in the early 1990’s and became regionally famous opening for artists like Dru Hill and Immature, they didn’t receive nationwide attention until 1997 when they signed a record deal with major label Columbia Records.

Though the membership of Destiny’s Child fluctuated throughout their career, the trio of Kelly, Beyonce, and Michelle Williams were the group’s most solid lineup. Destiny’s Child released four albums before disbanding in 2001, and though the group is currently on hiatus they continue to periodically perform together for philanthropy events and mini-reunions. Some of Destiny’s Child’s most famous songs include "Jumpin’, Jumpin’", "Bills, Bills, Bills", and "Emotion". After the dissolution of Destiny’s Child Kelly initiated a solo project, releasing her first album Simply Deep on Columbia in 2002.

Simply Deep went on to be a moderate success, reaching the #12 spot on the US Billboard 200 chart. Featuring a faster, more dance-oriented sound that still retained elements of soul and R&B present in her earlier work with Destiny’s Child, Simply Deep spawned four catchy singles: "Dilemma", "Stole", "Can’t Nobody", and "Train on a Track".
