Jennifer Lynn Lopez is without a doubt one of the preeminent entertainers of her era. Often known by the nickname J. Lo, Lopez is an award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, actress, and dancer with a net worth estimated to be in excess of $110 million by Forbes magazine. Born in New York City to parents of Puerto Rican heritage in 1969, Jennifer made her humble entrance into the entertainment industry as a backup dancer for acts like New Kids on the Block and Janet Jackson in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, eventually using her industry contacts to enter into an acting career by securing bit parts in television shows and movies throughout the 1990’s.

She received her big break in 1997 when she was given the lead role in Selena, a biographical drama about the tragic life of Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla Perez. Jennifer’s superb performance convinced audiences nationwide that she was more than just another pretty face, revealing her deep talents as both an actress and a vocalist. She signed to a record deal with Epic Records (Celine Dion, Kat DeLuna) in 1998, releasing her solo debut On the 6 (a reference to the #6 subway line in New York City) in mid-1999. The album was an immense success - no doubt due to the airplay garnered by superb singles "Let’s Get Loud" and "Waiting For Tonight" - as was her second release, J. Lo (2001), which went on to move over 12 million units worldwide. Jennifer’s curvaceous figure and sultry vocal style (combining elements of Hispanic music with contemporary pop, R&B, and dance) proved to be a winning combination, as can be seen on tracks like "Ain’t It Funny" and "Love Don’t Cost a Thing". During this time in her career J. Lo was romantically linked to rap mogul Sean Combs, but the two broke up in 2001.

While Lopez’s third studio album, 2002’s This Is Me…Then was every bit as successful as her earlier releases, her fourth album - 2005’s Rebirth - didn’t fare quite as well, selling only 3 million copies worldwide. Rebirth featured a slower, more balladic style than her earlier releases; she notes that the album was influenced by her separation from actor Ben Affleck, who she had dated up until 2004. Notable tracks from these two albums include "Jenny From the Block", "Get Right", and "All I Have", all of which charted in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.
