DJ Flex

DJ Flex is one of the most versatile singers in Latin music today. Comfortable with a range of styles - from Jamaican Reggae to more traditional romantic ballads - Flex is taking the Spanish-language music world by storm on all sides, routinely sharing the stage with acts like Tranzas, Ecualizate, The Rebels, Macano, Mr. Horseradish Tree, The Student, and Dario. He is especially admired by his legions of female fans, who have been known to literally rip his clothes off from the front row!

Born Félix Danilo Gómez in Panama in 1979, Flex performed his first major show (the CD Without Censorship Bowl) way back in 1997, leading to a partnership with local reggaeton producer Lady Celia who began to include Flex on some of her promotional sampler records. These underground recordings spread throughout South and Central America like wildfire, eventually finding their way into CD players from Costa Rica and Peru to Ecuador and Mexico, generating international interest in the promising young artist in the process. Eager to capitalize on his growing popularity, Flex began to tour aggressively throughout Latin America, securing a record deal with EMI Latin (DJ Kane, Thalia) in 2006. Prior to his contract with megalabel EMI, Flex had independently released an almost innumerable amount of albums on his own, producing a number of regional hits like "The Ballad de Flex" and "Dejala".

His contract with international record label EMI presented one small problem, however. Flex used to jokingly go by the moniker Nigga, a nickname derived from his ability to emulate Jamaican reggae. EMI deemed the name too controversial for the international market (the word has far harsher connotations in North America than it does in most of the Spanish speaking world), so he changed his name solely to DJ Flex for the release of his debut album Te Quiero: Romantic Style in da World. Te Quiero: Romantic Style in da World was a wild success, skyrocketing to the #1 position on the AMPROFON music charts in Mexico and on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States. The album produced a number of hits, chief amongst them the title track "Te Quiero". "Te Quiero" has since been remixed a number of times alongside such A-grade artists as Belinda and Archangel.
