Ciara Princess Harris is one of the hottest singers in the contemporary urban music industry right now - and yes, Princess really is her middle name. The 23 year old starlet was born in Austin, Texas, though she spent most of her childhood moving across the country due to her dad's job in the Army, eventually settling for good in Atlanta, Georgia during her teenage years. A naturally gifted entertainer, Ciara - inspired by a Destiny's Child performance she saw on TV - decided to pursue a career in music, joining an all-girl singing group called Hearsay while still in high school.

Though Hearsay dissolved due to personal differences after producing only a handful of demos, her tenure in the group proved fruitful as it served to introduce her to hotshot producer Jazze Pha. Jazze Pha - who has produced hits for such artists as T.I., Aaliyah, and Chris Brown - took Ciara under his wing, securing her a record deal with L.A. Reid's Sony-backed La Face Records (Usher, OutKast) in 2003. The duo soon began production on Ciara's debut album Goodies, which hit store shelves in September 2004.

Goodies was an immediate success, soaring to #3 on the Billboard 200 and moving over three million copies domestically, earning Ciara a triple-Platinum certification from the RIAA - no small feat for her first studio album. The majority of Goodies was recorded in Atlanta, and it shows; local producers like Lil Jon and Dre & Vidal added a hint of Southern charm to the album's otherwise downtempo R&B and hip-hop offerings. Goodies produced a number of successful singles, among them "Goodies" and "1, 2 Step".
