With his new hit single, "It's Going Down,", topping charts everywhere, Yung Joc is seeing his celebrity definitely on the rise. The number one street anthem from New Joc City is what everybody's singing these days.
Yung Joc has been a part of several underground rap groups, but he entered mainstream music with the help of "Block," aka Russel Spencer of Block Enterprises. Block's label, Block Enterprises, signed Joc as their first rapper when Block heard that Joc had been entertaining packed houses at the Royal Peacock, historical because of its association with Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. Block signed him on immediately. Soon, "It's Going Down" became popular even outside Atlanta, and found itself on Diddy's desk. Diddy signed on Joc to his fledgling label, Bad Boy South, with a contract worth millions of dollars.
As a child, Yung Joc, or Jasiel Robinson, grew up in south and west Atlanta. His childhood was troubled because he was passed from one family member to the other. Despite this, from a very young age he was creatively inclined to music. As early as age 10, he would emulate the rappers. Naturally, the ones about pain, passion and determination attracted him more. Run DMC, Ice-T, Slick Rick, Dana Dane were some of the rappers he listened to while growing up.
Southern Atlanta is becoming one of the most popular places from where new hip-hop stars are emerging everyday. Georgia born Yung Joc added to his list of artists who articulated about life in urban and rural ghettoes in their characteristic southern drawls. Yung Joc is ready to be Atlanta's next big thing in the hip-hop world. He has everybody grooving to "It's Going Down," and sales of New Joc City are going up tremendously everyday.
"Patron," another song on New Joc City seems to be destined to become a hit as well. The Chino Dollar-produced "Dope Boy Magic" is a poignant rendition by Joc. First-hand experiences add a personal element to Joc's songs and make them more appealing to his listeners. Each song seems to showcase a new side of Joc. "First Time," produced by Carlos and DaDa, shows him talking about first love and brings out his intimate side.
Yung Joc, with his remarkably distinctive voice, has won the respect of many, far and wide. Hip-hop fans are jamming to his songs, not only in Atlanta, but nationwide. While "Its Going Down" is already a smash hit, others too will follow. New Joc City is not an album that people are about to let go of in a hurry.
