Djuan Hart - better known by his stage name Young Dro - has spent his entire life in some of Atlanta, Georgia's most notorious housing projects. One of five children, his hardworking mother fought constantly just to keep food on the table. While living for a time in the Bankhead housing project during the 1990's, a teenage Djuan befriended a similarly youthful Clifford Joseph Harris (that's T.I., for those of you living under a rock); both were aspiring rappers, but neither took the rap game especially seriously. Though the pair drifted apart when Djuan moved out of Bankhead, that friendship would be key in making Young Dro into the star he would become just a few years later.Fast forward to 2002; Young Dro was sitting in his car listening to music when he heard a familiar voice on the radio. After racking his mind for a bit, he recognized the voice as belonging to Harris. Dro called into the radio station to send a shout out to his old friend; a delighted T.I. invited Dro to perform a concert with his later that night. One thing led to another, and soon Dro found himself signed to T.I.'s Atlantic-distributed label Grand Hustle Records. Young Dro made his solo debut on Grand Hustle in 2006 with the release of his first mainstream album, Best Thang Smokin'. A fitting title; Djuan's rap handle "Dro" is derived from "Hydro", street slang for potent hydroponically-grown weed. Best Thang Smokin' debuted respectably at the #3 spot on the Billboard 200, selling just over 100,000 copies in its first week. The Jazze Pha-produced album went on to spawn two hit singles, "Rubberband Banks" and "Shoulder Lean". Eager to top the success that was Best Thang Smokin', Dro plans on releasing his sophomore album Young and Restless sometime in 2008.
