Phosphorescent is the solo project of Matthew Houck, an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. To date, Houck has released five full-length albums as Phosphorescent: Here's to Taking It Easy (2010), To Willie (2009), Pride (2007), Aw Come, Aw Wry (2005), and A Hundred Times or More 2003.
Before 2003 Houk recorded and toured under the name of Fillup Shack.
Phosphorescent, fronted by Matthew Houck, is an indie folk/alt country band that is often compared to Iron and Wine, Will Oldham, and Neil Young.[citation needed] Phosphorescent currently resides in Brooklyn, New York (formerly of Athens, Georgia) and is signed to independent label Dead Oceans.
