Elgin Bayor Lumpkin, Jr. - better known, perhaps mercifully, by his slightly less offbeat stage name Ginuwine - is an R&B artist from Forestville, Maryland. Ginuwine began performing from an early age, citing Prince and Michael Jackson as strong childhood influences; he even formed a singing group in his youth named the Finesse Five, a nod at Michael Jackson's family band The Jackson Five. He began pursuing a musical career in earnest in the early 1990's, after graduating with a paralegal degree from Prince Georges Community College as a backup planThe young crooner fell in with the Swing Mob - a loose-knit artistic collective whose members have included Missy Elliott and Aaliyah - which eventually led to his friendship with up-and-coming producer Timbaland, who produced Ginuwine's first record, 1996's Ginuwine...the Bachelor. Featuring the futuristic, synthesizer-laden beats that would become Timbaland's hallmark style, Ginuwine...the Bachelor sold over 2 million copies based on the merit of tracks like "Pony" and "I'll Do Anything/I'm Sorry". Ginuwine's second and last Timbaland-produced album, 1999's 100% Ginuwine, was as successful as its predecessor, firmly establishing Ginuwine as the R&B artist to watch in the new millennium. Ginuwine entered into the new millennium with the release of two more successful albums, 2001's platinum-certified The Life and 2003's The Senior, both of which debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. The albums featured production by R&B legendary singer/songwriter R. Kelly and produced a number of hits, among them "Differences" and "Love You More". Unfortunately, Ginuwine's fifth album Back II Da Basics (2005) did not sell as well as his first four, prompting longtime record label Epic to drop him soon after. Despite this, Ginuwine is gearing up to release a sixth album in 2008, with the fitting title A New Beginning. The album's first single is thought the be the track "Baby", which leaked onto the internet in early 2008.
